Boy Scouts Honor Pennsylvania Convention Center
Cradle of Liberty Council and 200 guests salute the Convention Center’s 25 years of leadership and dedication to the Greater Philadelphia Region
PHILADELPHIA, PA (Nov. 5, 2018) – On Thursday, November 1 in front of 200 guests, the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America, hosted the 33rd Annual Hospitality “Good Scout” Award dinner presenting honors to the Pennsylvania Convention Center. In recognition of its exemplary leadership in the hospitality industry and economic contribution to the Greater Philadelphia region, Mayor Kenney presented the “Good Scout” award to the Chairman of the Board, Gregory J. Fox, who accepted on behalf of the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
“I am honored to present the Pennsylvania Convention Center and its chair, Gregory Fox, with the Cradle of Liberty Council’s 2018 Hospitality ‘Good Scout’ Award,” said Daniel Templar, Cradle of Liberty Council scout executive and CEO. “The Cradle of Liberty Council and the Pennsylvania Convention Center are like-minded organizations. We both work to change lives for the better; we both offer diverse and inclusive experiences; we both provide engaging opportunities for people to explore hobbies and activities; and most importantly, we are both working hard to make an impact throughout the region. On behalf of our Cradle of Liberty Council board and all of my Boy Scouts colleagues, congratulations to the Convention Center for 25 years of success in Philadelphia.”
The Pennsylvania Convention Center established Philadelphia as a significant meeting destination when it opened in 1993 and with its expansion in 2011. It has been an economic engine for the hospitality industry here ever since. The Center has fueled Philadelphia’s economic growth through advancing opportunities for creation and expansion of hotels, restaurants and cultural institutions. A world-class hospitality leader, the Pennsylvania Convention Center has generated more than $13 billion in revenue for the city, employs nearly 75,000 individuals in the field, and has played host to marquee events here including the Papal Visit, Democratic National Convention and NFL Draft in recent years.
The Cradle of Liberty Council hosts the annual tradition of its “Good Scout” Award dinner to highlight organizations and individuals who are strong representatives of Scouting’s leadership traits and are making positive contributions to those in our community across southeastern Pennsylvania.
Proceeds from the 2018 Hospitality “Good Scout” Award dinner directly support COLBSA’s After-School Scouting programs and Exploring, a career-development program that provides hands-on learning opportunities for girls and boys, ages 14 to 20, to experience different professions in fields ranging from hospitality to law enforcement.
