Pennsylvania Convention Center, Aramark donate 800 pounds of perishable food to local non-profits to assist individuals in need
PHILADLEPHIA, PA – The Pennsylvania Convention Center and its partners at Aramark have donated 800 pounds of perishable food items over the past week to Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission and the Valley Youth House’s Achieving Independence Center for distribution to individuals and families in need.
Faced with a surplus of perishable food following event cancellations at the facility due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Pennsylvania Convention Center worked with its food service provider, Aramark, to ensure the food was used to support and assist local residents.
"With so many individuals and families struggling during this difficult time, we wanted to make sure that this food was put to good use,” said Gregory J. Fox, Esquire, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority. "Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission and the Valley Youth House do great work in the local community and we know they will make sure this food gets to those who need it.”
A total of 501 pounds of dairy and produce items were provided to Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission, the largest emergency homeless shelter in Philadelphia. Located on North 13th Street, the non-profit provides three free meals a day, 365 days a year to homeless men, women, and children.
297 pounds of dairy and produce were provided to Valley Youth House‘s Achieving Independence Center, which is located on North Broad Street. The Achieving Independence Center assists youth who are preparing to or have recently aged out of the foster/dependent care system with the support they need as they strive toward attaining and maintaining independence, including housing and personal development.
