Philadelphia, PA - The Pennsylvania Convention Center is proud to announce that its art website, www.paconventionart.com, has been updated to include the Center’s “Legacy Collection,” artwork that was acquired when the building first opened in 1993.

The Center first launched the Pennsylvania Convention Center Art website in 2018, as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, and debuted the artwork that is displayed in the facility’s 2011 expanded space from 13th to Broad Streets, an area now referred to as the Annex. With the update, the website now also highlights 83 pieces that are displayed in the original east side of the building, from 11th to 13th Streets.

“The Pennsylvania Convention Center owns an impressive collection of museum-quality artwork, many of which were created by some of the most talented artists across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” said David A. Nasatir, Esq., Chair of the Board, Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority. “This website update now allows our full collection to be accessible to art lovers worldwide while also showcasing our facility as the cornerstone of the region’s hospitality industry.”

In total, the Pennsylvania Convention Center invested $3.5 million in the acquisition and installation of 225 pieces of art created by 127 artists, most of whom have roots in or tied to Pennsylvania. The collection contains pieces representative of a variety of styles, techniques, and mediums including paintings, photographs, sculptures, textiles, tile mosaics, and even a video installation.

“The art collection at the Pennsylvania Convention Center can be found throughout our more than 1 million square feet of event spaces and includes some very unique pieces that really differentiate the Center from other meeting venues,” said John J. McNichol, President & CEO, Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority. “Through the art website, the Center is able to highlight our collection as an added attraction for our customers and their event attendees to enjoy while they are at the Center for their conference or meeting.”

The website, a comprehensive, information-rich platform, provides a detailed map of the facility with the location of each piece, images of the artwork, background information on the artwork selection process, biographical information and additional facts on each artist, and a two-minute introductory video on the collection, which can also be viewed on YouTube

On the site, users can search the artwork by title, artist, or location within the Center and a downloadable brochure is available for event attendees and guests to participate in self-guided tours.

“I was excited and overjoyed when my work was chosen for the Pennsylvania Convention Center back in the 90’s,” said Joyce Mansfield-Harris whose pieces Bahama Mama, Gathered in His Name, and Kumbayah are part of the art collection at the Center. “More than thirty years later, I still consider myself to be fortunate to have my art on display at a premier facility in the heart of Philadelphia, visible to thousands of people each year. Having the artwork on the website is an added bonus. I am grateful!”
